1983 AMC Eagle
$1,000
Portland, Oregon
I picked up the eagle for $2200 3 years ago and put about $2000 more into it. It's a great car with plenty of quirks. Here's the goods and the bads:
Good:
Runs fine.
A bunch of new parts put on less than 3 years ago(ball joints, etc) and it will come with a box of a few more parts and a ac blower.
New leafs from Oregon Auto Spring services which gives it around 3" lift from stock.
New shocks all around.
New CV halfshafts less than 300 miles on them.
BFG KM2 dig 'em deeper mud terrain tires with less than 10k miles on them. More than plenty of tread left. These were about $1000 mounted.
Power doors(locks windows) work except for the left rear door.
Nice newer urban camo headliner(no sag).
4x4 works(but you have to switch it at the transfer case(there's some knobs inside the car you can hook up to do it, but I just kept it engaged).
Clean title and registration.
Heat works.
Previous owner said engine was rebuilt prior to his owning the car, but had no receipts. Engine runs fine(same i6 that's been in cherokees etc)
Previous owner put new radiator in.
Has original spare.
The cons:
Transmission isn't liking switching into 3rd gear(3 total gears). This is why the price is lower. The transmission pan and the plastic valve cover leak as well. This is a known quirk with these types of vehicles.
The key broke. You can still start the car and stuff, but you can't lock it. A locksmith can make a new key, but it'll be around $200.
The speedometer doesn't work. This is something at the transfer case. Can probably be fixed but you're not gonna be going 140 in this thing so you'll be fine. Go the same speed as people around you.
It's a 33 year old car. If you're a starving college student, this isn't the ideal car for you. Yes you will have to fight off the women who will be throwing themselves at you because this is a badass car. Still it is 30 years old and needs work and maintenance. It's a beautiful car.
If I had a garage I'd keep the car and fix it up but as it stands I need to thin the herd so I can buy some motorcycles and stuff.
Selling on Craigslist for 1200. Here for 1000. It's a good car.
