SolVac question
« on: April 13, 2015, 08:06:25 PM »
In the aftermath of my epic struggle to replace my valve cover gasket, my SolVac seems to have quit working, in that the idle is not being raised when I activate the headlights or AC.  As a result, the load is actually dropping the idle down to where it just barely runs.  When I think of all the stuff I disconnected/reconnected to get the valve cover off, it's quite possible that I screwed up something that broke the SolVac.

My understanding is that the solenoid is what raises the idle when the electrical load increases, so my problem must lie with the solenoid and its circuitry, not the vacuum stuff.  Does that sound right to you guys?

My plan is to first apply +12 volts directly to the solenoid and see if it moves; if it does, then I'll start tracing the circuitry back...

Thanks,
JB

I am having similar issues with my SV. I've had three Eagles and they have never worked.

did you try tapping the gas pedal while the headlights or ac is on? The ECM only has control of the vacuum portion of the sol-vac. the electrical portion of the sol-vac is controlled by the headlights and AC. It does not have the ability to move the throttle on its own, it only can hold it.

Correct. After turning on the electrical portion of the Solvac you must blip the throttle. Only the vacuum portion has enough strength to raise it on its own.

solvac set too tight maybe/
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!
