What are those seats from?

I'd bet that those are OEM seats.
A lot of the VAM interiors looked better than American cars.

YEah I think those are stock seats.  IIRC that is a similar design to the seats in Eagler's Eagle.

I agree, those are some great looking seats.  I wonder if they put the same style of seats in Eagles.

why couldn't they put a center armrest in US cars ...... I think we got the short end of the stick when it comes to interors

Agreed.

VAM was also the first to engineer an Inline 6 into the XJ Cherokees.  AMC saw what they were doing and decided it was a good idea.

An arm rest would be sooooo nice....Plus those seats look just plain AWESOME!! They look much more supportive than the cumbersome things that are in the majority of our Eagles.

:o Didn't know that, lol, so they were making carbureted I6 xj's?

VAM did, I don't think AMC ever did.  They used a GM V6 instead.

VAM first recieved an XJ with the V6 to look into adding it to their production line. They were already making the AMC 258 in their own factory. They kept it as a 258 in some of their cars but also made a performance 4.6L engine that was essentially a 258 overbored right there from the factory. In order to make an XJ to sell in Mexico they converted the AMC XJ to have their 4.6L engine. This prototype was returned to AMC and they were very impressed. It was directly responsible for the inline six being installed as a fuel injected 4.0 a few years later. Thats VAMs most prestigious legacy.

The seats are VAM originals. The armrest is the same as the one in the Spirit AMX. I'm going to convert a Spirit into an Eagle SX4 while retaining the lower floorpan in order to keep the armrest. Its really nice.

This is a VAM Rally I found pictures of online. Its all original. Notice that it has slightly modified SX4 bumper ends on it.

My collection of Eagles will not be complete until I find a four door and 2 door VAM Lerma with black interior. I want to add the spoiler, crossmember, AMX rear louvers, 4WD hardware, and trim from an Eagle. I think a red four door Eagle SX4 with sport package would be glorious!

Thanks so much for sharing your red VAM Lerma, EAGLER. I find these cars fascinating and its so hard to find any pictures of them here in the US. Your post is one of the most popular on this forum!

Eagler you make me VERY Jealous... Nice finds. the 2 door VAM Lerma reminds me of a Datsun Type rear window style. I admit I think AMC should have brought that body up here... even if it was only for a year or 2. and those wheels are interesting, Do they come in black? :P

I would love to know this as well.  Are the VAM's sitting in yards everywhere, or are they a rarity?

Because as far as I'm concerned, I would LOVE to go down and grab one for show and shine's here.

My mexican buddy goes down there alot to visit family....He says they are still around...not in any kind of quantities but still around....he says you see them about as much as one would see a spirit here....I told him to ask around for me when he goes down to mexico city over x-mas....Maybe he'll be bringing me back the ultimate present.

What I would like to know is what the mexican equivalent to ebay is? I wouldn't buy one over the internet, but most people are not motivated to post pictures online until they are trying to sell a car. I have a huge collection of pictures from Ebay over the years and would like to collect pictures of VAM cars too. I'm also interested in their Jeep trucks and other VAM cars. I bet there is an online auction site with a treasure cove full of pictures if I knew enough spanish to find it.

the answer is "yes" they are a few vams still on the road some of them in pretty good shape as the one i have, they are very hard to find in pristine conditions due people's lack of kepts. i will post some updated pics of my red amx soon. i have to say that i heve two of the most beautiful well kept amcs here in cuernavaca. everybody turns to see while driving any of them
