Yeah, that sure looks like the one for the SX/4.  Pricey little varmint.  They weren't even listing it when I got mine.

So from what I found, I can get the whole exhaust from between Rock Auto and Advance auto parts?  Looks like the whole system is less than $200 bucks.

That is my guesstimate too.  I guess the price of the muffler will about the only choice you have.

as far as I know, there are no donut gaskets.  The exhaust to manifold is a ball and flange.(not sure if that is the correct term or not) No gasket

Wonder what shipping would run me to Fairbanks for an entire system? I need to plug it into a 4.0 manifold and add an O2 sencer port. Isn't there a bracket that attaches to the front of the cat? Mounted solid to the car? I had something like that bent all up unbder the car when I got it. No exhaust left....

akamc,
If there is a NAPA store in FBX, check with them as Walker makes their exhaust parts.

Parts america pulled up these 3 parts numbers...

44887, 42634 & 44537

Is that the whole system I'd need for an 83 SX/4? manual and 4.2?

Isn't this http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductDetail.aspx?mfrcode=MAR&mfrpartnumber=329073&parttype=688&ptset=A the intermediate pipe?

Mike

I need a complete exhaust system for my Kammback and just started investigating what I'll need today.  Is this in fact the intermediate pipe I need?  Has anyone used this particular piece?  Thanks.

Are you talking about the pipe that crosses back over behind the transfer case?  If so, I used the series 50 pipe which they did have.  BUT, it fit because I substituted the cat converter with a straight piece of pipe and was able, then, to make the crossover work.  I am guessing, that if you still have your cat converter the series 50 one can be cut to fit the series 50 cars.

I need to replace everything back of the exhaust manifold as they cut the exhaust pipe in front of the cat converter when it was in the junkyard.  And I need to have the cat because I have to pass the emissions test and have the original setup here in the Denver area.  So I need the pipe that goes between the cat and the muffler.  And it sounds like the pipe from the bigger eagles will work, with a little trimming?  How much work is it - I am a total novice at exhaust systems and have not special equipment like a welder, bender, etc.  Thanks.

Everything is pretty much a direct fit.  If you go with one of the aftermarket cats which slide over the header pipe you will probably have no problem with that intermediate pipe since you will probably have some adjustment room.  You will have to match the Cat ends to make sure they fit the pipes you are installing.  So, I would think you would want a cat that slides over the header pipe, so you will need to get the outside dimension of the header pipe and then get a cat with that end as the inside dimension.  So, I would first order the rest of the exhaust, that way you can see what the dimensions are of the intermediate pipe.  Then fit trial it all in, except for the Cat, and then see what dimensions Cat will work for you.  Get the proper universal Cat and then put it all together.  Leave everything kind of loose behind the Cat so you can get everything where you want it.  Work front to back, is what I do.

I had no luck at Advance finding Maremont or 157691.
A search for mufflers brought up a bunch but not enough info about them for me.
They seem to have been dropping our parts lately; I wonder if this is another example?

I was just on rockauto.  They have a bunch of stuff listed but that part of the site is extremely user unfriendly.
I was not able to tell what I was looking at.
I may call them.
I certainly wasn't happy with O'Reilly, Advance and NAPA online.
I haven't looked at Walker yet.

I tried to get an intermediate pipe for my SX/4 but the Walker site said it was not available. No one around here lists one. Fortunately there is a muffler shop near here that can probably bend one for me.

I've yet to put my new exhuast on because I  had a prob with my cat ordered it from checkers. They gave me a universal one which I did not want because it didn't have the plate to mount it to the very first piece of pipe off of the manifold. But I had no problems getting the intermediate pipe you guys are talking about from rockauto. Universal cats are short and stubby with about three inches of pipe to attach the rest of the exhuast to. Direct fit cats have an extra like 8 inches with a mounting plate attached on the front with the back having three inches to attach to the intermdiate pipe.

I don't need a cat on mine and the muffler shop here by be says $175 from manifold back. No inspection here but for the money I hear on this thread I can have in installed. Wonder if the shop can bend another set for needy members.

Years ago I found a supplier who would make the pipes for us if I could give him an idea about quantities. He would have had to make the "bend cards" & I offered my stock pipes. At the most I think only one person showed any interest. There are shops that can make these for you.
