2012 - Mini-Meets & Official Midwest/Int'l Meet
« on: August 05, 2012, 03:22:41 PM »
Ok, starting fresh with a new thread and laying some ground rules for future Meets. The Midwest/Int'l Meet must be set up with a location and date at least 8mo in advance. So by this time we need to have someone willing and able to host the Meet and having the basics set in stone. Now, because this has never been an issue before - we never had any sort of contingency in place in case a Meet fell through. As of now, we have a contingency (or plan B if you like). From here on out, typically the Int'l Meets will be central United States since MOST of our members live in the States and since (after many conversations regarding the matter) it simply makes more sense that it is centralized due to West Coast/East Coast trevelers. For the most part West Coast members won't be able to make East Coast events and vice versa. So being centralized will make things much easier.

Since the AMC Cordova Internationals are centrally located in Illinois on the border of Iowa and they already have most of what we need ready to go with a strong following AND they are easy to work with and welcome our participation - it just makes sense to have this as a yearly meeting spot. Of course, this may not be popular for all Nesters but first off, you can always have mini-meets anywhere you wish - no one would/could stop you from that. In fact, we encourage them! Secondly, IF someone/anyone (member of the Nest) wishes to host the Midwest/Int'l Meet - then you have the option of doing so, and again it is encouraged! Now, you don't necessarily HAVE to be in the Midwest but a somewhat centralized location in the mid United States is kind of a must. The Cordova Internationals will be our Meet spot every year for those who wish to attend (I will most certainly be at every meet) but if no one has set anything in stone to host the Meet elsewhere then I will take liberties to host it myself with the good folks at the AMC Internationsl in Cordova. They have everything we need/want including, an AMC car show with multiple classes and trophies, food vendors, AMC racing, AMC parts sales, lodging and an overall great atmosphere. It just works.

So with all that being said... our initial Meet for 2012 fell through kind of last minute. Several ideas have come up regarding where to move the Meet to. I tried back in June to get more info from guys looking to host a Meet and unfortunately didn't get a huge response. For the few interested this year - it seems kind of devided with the Annual Eagle Hotel Cruise in Colorado (being put together by Vangremlin and hosted by a great guy (Nashkid/Terry) with ALOT of really awesome Eagles) and then we also have the Detroit, Michigan AMC International show spotlighting the AMC Eagle's anniversary this year. And then of course, the Cordova Internationals are always an option.

So, we're going to wing it this year and see where it goes by taking a poll that will not stay open long regarding the three spots. Unfortunately, I think the Michigan trip is far too last minute for most folks to make die-hard plans and I know Colorado for whatever reason seems to only have a few people seriously interested. I think it has to do with distance mainly. Even though it's (in my opinion) pretty much centrally located - it just happens to be kind of in the boonies for most of the Nest members. I'm not sure why but it matters little at this juncture. We just need to set a date and commit to it.

All three Meets can be arranged whether they are mini-meets or whatever but I personally think that the Cordova Meet should be the "official" yearly Meet for the Nest. Mainly because there is little we have to do in preparation, there is still some time to make plans and, yes, it's obviously easier for me to plan because it's only an hour away from me. This in no way discredits the other Meets and if there are enough people at either - then I'm all for it! Please don't think I'm trying to force this choice on anyone out of personal gain. It matters not to me where the Meet is along as it's easily accessible to most Nesters and we have some sort of interest in it.

So... here are your options. Obviously, the Colorado Meet has the most time to plan. Let's get some opinions rolling here in this thread.

Personally, I would like to do all three!  However, Aug 18 is getting very close.   I am planning to go to Colorado, and maybe Cordova if the funds are there (who knows, I may get the long distance award again!).  It would be the coolest thing to be at the Eagle anniversary, but being on the left coast makes it an expensive trip.  Either way, I expect to see many photos and details posted if I don't do so myself.....Rich

Agreed Rich.... I REALLY wanted to go to the Michigan Meet... omg SO bad. I feel it should have been the main Meet this year hands down considering what it is. But what can ya do? We've learned something valuable this year and at least we'll be prepared for this kind of mishap in the future.

I'm still considering the Michigan trip but funds are unbelievable tight and I just comitted to a Chicago Comic-Con event next weekend that's pretty much going to blow me out financially. If we do the Cordova Meet I will try to have shirts made again - but not going through all the BS in past years. Going with a new vendor and a simpler/better design.

But anyway... I hear ya Rich and either way I will be at Cordova. Would be good to see you again. I've done some work here and there to the wagon you might enjoy and who-knows might get me a trohpy this year. ;)

Wish I could make it to one of those but little far outside the box for me and I'd have to take too much time off work to make it. I'm still watching for something closer to VA.

Appreciate the responses and clarifications!
Just want to share that we pick a 25th anniversary of something every year, and this year was the Eagle as you know.  Don't know what next year is, as there is no more 25 year anniversary without being Chrysler.

So this has been an invitation from the beginning to have any Eagles a part of our show and "center stage".  Didn't undersatnd not want to impose a National spot for your folks, but in years ahead, always open for any AMC related group to share our space as the Marlin Clubs sometime does a show within a show here.

So sounds like a good plan, and I know what you mean.  I can't miss Cordova ever again as that is a quality show, Jock and company are first rate folks, so will see you all there too.

By the way, 2010 was our hosting of AMO National convention, and this and other years are our regional show, which gets strangely good attendance for AMC's.  Either way, let me know IF there is ANYTHING I can ever do to help promote Eaglenest, AMC or anything!  Or be there with my Concord 5 speed wagon (Eagle wannabee).

Richard
Thanks,
Richard

Sounds great Javelinman! Maybe you'd be interested in hosting/sponsoring the 2013 Meet??? You could take the reigns and help me wrap it around the Cordova Meet or set it up solo with one of your shows in Michigan!

Ok.... no one else wanna chime in?

I'm guessing at this point that the Michigan Meet is probably a bit too "last minute" to have time to get everything there to be able to make it the official Meet as far as t-shirts and stuff. I've not really heard much else about the Rambler Ranch tour either since Van posted his thread on it.

I'm hoping to see alot more interest soon on one of them. :/
Either way, I will be in Cordova and anyone wanting to join me is more than welcome! I will probably just be making the T-shirts around the Cordova Meet. I know there are a few Nesters that always go regardless and several others said they intend to go. Also a few Eagle guys that aren;t members (or don't post often) go as well so at this point I see it as being the most populated event so far but we'll see what happens.

I was pretty they had decided on making the Eagle Motel/Rambler Ranch trip the official one this year. That's why Vangremlin started the thread on it.

I too had thought that there was quite a bit of interest in it.  Moot point for me - I probably can't make any of them.

Hey Mavericke,
Sorry, checked back with Greenmead coming up and seen the posts.   Didn't get any e-mail notifications about the posts.  This year was the spotlight decided for Eagles, and after doing a AMO Nationals, club is still gun shy taking on a big show, and next year will be another theme.

BUT, NAMDRA, I'm there and was good to see the turnout of Eagles last year!  Be glad to help in any way of making it a national meet there in 2013.  Let me know how I can help and what we can do to make it happen, officially!

Always enjoy promoting and organizing especially to see AMC's get together!  NAMDRA's my biggest road trip to vendor, but always worth the trip.  Things are looking good here for Greenmead.  Know of a few Eagles committed to be there Sunday.  Laid out the show field today and have a spot to the edge of the park, that has a view from * Mile Rd so folks coming in and driving by will see the Eagles lined up there.  Also a good response, so expecting a great turn out for AMC's and the weather is promising in low 70's!

Let me know how I can help!
Richard
Thanks,
Richard

I've talked with Van a bit and it looks like there is a good following for a group headed to the Ranch! It looks like it should be a good trip too.

Again, my apologies for things not being worked out sooner this year. It was no one particular person's fault. Stuff happens and we have to make the best of it. Thanks to Van for arranging things with for the Rambler Ranch Meet. I'll still most-likely be at Cordova this year for anyone that wants to join me.

When I started this thread I didn't see much interest in either Meet but Van has confirmed via email that the R.Ranch tour is looking good. I'm just glad we're having a decent Meet this year. We need to start working in next year's Meet like... yesterday, lol!

Van's Meet seems to have the most people attending. I think his meet will be the most "official int'l" meet this year, lol!
