Title: Rear passenger tire sits back 1" more than drivers side
Post by: Nightpath on April 12, 2015, 07:57:24 AM
I was looking at the rear of my car the other day and noticed that the passenger side rear tire sits 1" further back in the wheel well than the drivers side.

This normal on Eagles? I think my original Eagle was like that as well but I can't recall fore sure.

My rear axle was replaced thougj to an 8.25.

Yep, that's normal. Many folks get 1" spacers to put on each of the rear wheels to make them equal.

No not that, that's wheel spacing.

The wheel is physically closer to the rear of the car than the other.

Something doesn't sound right. I would verify if the rear wheels are out of square to the front wheels by attempting to take a measurement from the center line of the wheels.

Sounds like the alignment bolt sheared off, got stuck in the wrong hole or a leaf spring snapped/got bent.

The tires on each side are nearly equal, bit less than a centimeter difference front to rear. I think that the trim is off a bit.

In saying that...can the leaf springs be installed backwards?

My first thought is that you had llose molding. Not axle being off center. That would need you to have your spring perches lopsided.. also i cannot exactly visualize what you are saying.. are you saying the wheelbase is 1 inch shorter or longer. Or is your car looking doglegged.

Diverts side wheel is in the center of the wheel well arch. Passenger side wheel is off center towards the rear.

So maybe dog legged.

I think that the trim is part of the problem.

Measure front hub center to rear hub center both sides.

Could it have been in an accident?

I measured l center hub of each front to each rear wheel. Less than a centimeter difference between each side. This may be because its a modified 8.25.

The trim on the passenger side isn't slid back as far as on the drivers side as well.

The old guy that had the car stripped and repainted it. I imagine hr just tossed it all back on not giving 2 crap about it being lined up right.

1 cm is probobly better than most of our cars that are not modified.

Lol yeah. When I first looked at it I was wtf....then I thought about it off and on for a few weeks till I actually measured it.

I might do a trim delete this summer. A lot of salt and grit is getting caught in between the trim and the metal and it's really not doing me any favors.
