Hello,

As I understand it .... The sanctuary will take AMC's .... the ones that can be repaired,  will be made roadworthy for members that want an Eagle / AMC to drive :hello2:.   The cars that can not be made roadworthy will be changed into mudders / rock crawlers.  All remaining  parts will be salvaged to keep other AMC's on the road or for other nest members that need parts, nothing will be wasted. ;D

                                                                                      Regards, Iron Horse :)

if we can come up with a way to cover fuel expenses I can probably make another clandestine sanctuary trip............
it would be a 660 mile round trip, current fuel cost is real close to $1 per mile.  That's not counting toll road cost.

or I can help with the blowvada in 2 weeks (28-29th)

I want some @ that $$$.  Pretty please!  Haha.

Nice of you to offer again Sleepsundercars.  Would it be 660 miles to the east coast sanctuary (round trip)?  Just wondering because these are not headed to Mav's and I forget where rev is exactly.

660 is from my place, right past the ECS, to Mechaniccsville. Load up, to the ECS, unload. Then back home.

whoops, meant $1 per MILE
Wishful thinking?

Rev.Bill is located about 35 miles north of the sanctuary. Just outside of Altoona

That's crazy $1 per mile.  Wow, I'm glad I don't have to deal with that on a daily basis.

I'm glad I don't either....company fuel card :)

I have officaly owned that darn bravada for a year and i refuse to give up on it, we have engine number 3 sitting in front of it waiting for install.  After all of the trouble caused by  the previous engine install I have kind of been keeping myself busy with other things and dread doing it.  But as a plus there is serious talk about getting it up and going for another trip to utah  ;D

the bravada will live on!

Bill you are more persistent than I am.  I believe if the Bravada were mine I would have lit it on fire and roasted some marshmallows after the engine from Iowa blew.

Wow $1 a mile? So you're getting around 4 mpg? I couldn't make it on that. Too bad I couldn't squeeze them in a reefer trailer or I'd help :( Hopefully you guys will find a way to get them.
Title: Re: Have 4 maybe 5 Eagles for the sanctuary
Post by: SleepsUnderCars on May 11, 2011, 07:04:09 PM
4.5 inthe cold months, it gets a little better now that weather is better and I don't idle at night.
auto transporters are notorious for bad milege, most average 4.5 to 5 mpg. I have gotten it up to 5.5, but I can't stand to run 55.  Now if I had to pay for the fuel out of MY pocket, it would be a different story.
Title: Re: Have 4 maybe 5 Eagles for the sanctuary
Post by: BlackIce05 on May 11, 2011, 07:37:34 PM
Yeah I knew you guys got worse fuel mileage but didn't realize it was that much worse. I hate going slow but I'm paying the fuel so I do 55 most of the time and can get 9mpg but thats in a new cascadia too.

Hi All,

I've got some time to clean them up a bit ... ::)... Ha  Ha.  I will make sure they will roll without the wheels falling off .... get them staged and ready so there are no surprises. I read the story about some other Eagles you hauled.

Keep me posted .... Regards, Iron Horse ;D
Title: Re: Have 4 maybe 5 Eagles for the sanctuary
Post by: SleepsUnderCars on May 19, 2011, 01:18:31 PM
great. Wheels falling off is a big problem! Do you have room for an 85 foot truck? Ground clearance can be a problem too- trailer sits 6" off the ground, 5th wheel is even lower.
not sure when this will be pulled off, I'm waiting on word from the ECS to see if I will be involved.

Hello Sleeps Under Cars,

There are no radical changes in terrain to the Eagles .... even if we have to roll the cars down the driveway to the main road .... shouldn't be a problem. I have keys for them so the steering wheel can be turned, and titles for all of them. About a week before the pickup I'll pull them out and get them staged, ready to go.

                                                                           Regards, Iron Horse  ;D

Update.........Checked the cars going to the sanctuary today ... they all roll just fine ... and ya won't have any wheels falling off. All the tires hold air, as I buy new tires for my driver I take the ones coming off and replace the older tires with them ... that's my way of rotating the oldest ones out.  Several doors I'll have to wire shut . :-\. they were always a weak point on the Eagles.

all for now, Iron Horse ;D

Not that we've ever had wheels fall off while loading/unloading at a sanctuary... that's unheard of, LOL!

Can't beleive you're still standing by the Blowvada. That's loyalty there ya'll. I second Brandon's opinion, I'd have driven it off a bridge a looong time ago. Or found someone with a nice Dodge to run it over. :P It's too bad I had to scrap my Blazer when it was totaled. The engine was SUPER low miles for the year and it was in perfect shape. I had EVERY problem you could think of with that truck until I finally replaced everything... the last 6mo were awesome. It was almost paid off too. It would be paid off right now and still super low miles. Sad. I hate wrecking vehicles. I didn't even take the brand new tires off of it it I was so upset.

Anyways, glad these Eagles are finding a home! I want pictures!

Just off topic for a sec here... I had no idea what you guys were talking about - A Bravada.  I thought it was a joke name.  Like Fire chicken - instead of Firebird? (no offence to Firebird lovers out there)

So I looked it up... there was a limited amount (and only one generation - 3rd Gen.) offered in Canada.  No wonder I've never heard of it.

Sorry, I had to post that.... Back to topic....

back off topic cause I have done my bravada home work ;D First gen bravadas are 80's style s-10 blazers with lots more options standard and a different front grille.  Gen 2 are 90's blazers with a "smart" 4 wheel drive system that is computerized (and seldom works) also the same "fully loaded" options with different grille and head lamps, the final gen bravada is pretty much a fully loaded trailblazer with some olds emblems.

the only reason I keep this stupid thing on the road is honestly because it is the most comfortable road vehicle I have ever drove a long distance in (Mavericke knows this fact as well) :P

Hello,

I got the four out in the yard ready to go ..... the fifth does not have the half shafts installed so I'll get some hardware to keep the hub together ... just wanted to let you know there will be a fifth if you want to take it .
looks like 3 of them could be made roadworthy the sedan and the '81 wagon , probably not ..but they have good parts.

cut and paste the exact link where the jpg is (click on the jpg, and then copy the address)  then paste it, then highlight the whole link, then hit the 'Insert Image'

All it does is add the img tags.

Here is something I put together so I can copy and paste it to help with posting pictures.
Most of us use free Photobucket accounts.
 www.photobucket.com
We recommend clicky pics.  This is a thumbnail picture that enlarges when clicked.
Photobucket has made a change in the way you copy the code.
Here is the way it looks to me:
For a single clicky pic, hover over the picture.  This will open a drop down menu.  Click on the fourth window, img.
It will then say "copied".
Go to the thread where you want to put the picture and paste it in.
For multiple clicky pics, hover over the pictures and click on the small box at the bottom of the picture.
Scroll down and click on "Choose action".  Click "Generate code for selected".
This will open another page.  Click on the third box, "IMG for bulletin boards & forums".  It will say "copied".  Paste it into the thread of your choice.
In both instances you can select "Preview" to make sure it is what you want before you post it.

Hi all :hello:

The 5 were loaded last night and now are on their way to the "Eaglepatch".  When we tried to push the first one up onto the trailer the angle of the car going up on the ramp caused the bumper of the pusher to break a tail lite.  SOooo.. Sean had to use the trailer hydraulics to move the cars onto it. It was hot and humid too .. we were sweatin'. Like an artist with a brush and canvas, he extended, retracted, pushed, pulled, lowered, lifted, tilted, and with a little help from gravity he got them all loaded.  I'll post some picts ... got to resize them first, but the one above is a good start.

the silver car in the middle is a nissan altima, there's also a pontiac grand am beside it you can just barely see...its a very limited time parking spot, just 'til I get my 1-car unit back together.  Only a week or 2.....

these 2 are parts donors

after loading the cars, (BIG THANKS TO MR. & MRS. IRONHORSE FOR ALL THE HELP !) in keeping with the " fly-by-night" nature of the trip, I drove all night long back to OH, arriving just before 7am. I spent the rest of the day sleeping and seeing my family.
The next morning was pretty rushed, 2 of my sons and myself yanked them off and drug them up into the field. I apologize for not getting any pics of the unload, but I had to leave for work. I did a quick walkaround of each one, but have not really looked at them.

when I move them I will get more pics.
IRONHORSE, I would love any history on the cars. Thanks again for the help!

:hello:

1980 sedan ( PARTS ).. salvage title, was a Penna car ... Looking back thru the Eagle logs, I bought that car for $500.00 in Dec 1994. The engine ran prefect and I used it to get down my driveway after a snow. I did notice some trans fluid in the snow last time I used it .. YEARS ago .. so I would check trans fluid if you're going to start / run it. I suspect it is only the seal at the torque converter neck. Engine should be fine but I would prep it first ( remove plugs squirt some mystery oil in each hole.. wait an hour and then crank it over ) replace plugs and see if it starts.      I forgot to mention both rear axles are welded into the hubs and NO rear brakes at all.. nothing there !!

1981 wagon woody with no bumper ( PARTS ).. had a salvage title was one of three that sat at a used car dealer but never sold ... I bought them all. It was in running condition until I needed parts from it for another member. And a friend of mine with a jeep took the air cond stuff off to use as his onboard air compressor ( for his jeep ). I took the R/H rear axle after I broke one.         That side rear axle is welded into the hub wouldn't drive on it .. brake line I think is off on that side....

1983 or 4 ?? wagon blue with the gray hood.. I bought off "ebay" from a local person.. Tried to start .. it seemed the starter was dragging .. never got back to it.  I noticed it showed evidence of an engine fire .. painted firewall and melted R/H front fender liner. Not much history to tell on this one.

1984 blue with guage pkg ... I bought this one in Dec. 1992 for $400.00 with 106,500 miles on it. It had a bad rear differential but was nicer that the '85 I was driving. This one sat in the barn until Oct 1993 when the '85 Eagle I was driving caught on fire ... so I replaced the differential in the '84 and drove it .... Finally the trans went out .. nothing major .. I suspect the front clutch pack just wore out from so many miles... It was a great car and may be again ....  Engine still ran fine, and would prep before trying to start it.

1985 wagon woody .. was one of the three at the used car lot that I picked up, and was in running condition. The car sat close to the roadway and someone ran off the road and hit the front pass side then drove away. I never tried to start this one, but I know it did run. The used car lot had replaced the transmission with a used one before he put it out for sale, so trans should be good. I had removed the R/H rear leaf spring for my driver. I replaced it with another BUT the "U" bolts are missing ... axle is band clamped to the spring.

Well that's about it ... when you fix 'em up .. I sure would like to see picts.

                                                           Regards, Iron Horse ;D

my son and I worked most of the day to accomplish this task, pulling them onto the trailer with his eagle sedan and pulling them back off with my kammback.
as progress is made more posts will follow......stay tuned.....

Hello,

Well it has been several years now since the five Eagles were taken to their new home at the sanctuary. I haven't seen any further message traffic about what ever was done with the cars, wondering if anyone benefitted from the donation ?????

   Hello All,

This is disturbing to me .. I donated 5 Eagles to the " sanctuary" for the benefit of Eagle owners that may need some parts ..  "nothing wasted" is what I was led to believe.  Seems like the Eagles just got moved from one yard to another ..  you all had me believing there was actually a "sanctuary". If anyone has benefited form the donation, I would like to hear it.

I'm a little confused as to where these cars were taken, whether they ended up with thereverendbill or sleepsundercars.  Bill is still active on the site but sleepsundercars hasn't visited in two years.  I'll see if I can drop him an email to find out the fate of the cars.  Thanks.

From Billy Curry on Facebook.

"as far as I know ...... the sedan is long gone, the blue wagon is the the one that fell on sean (crusher), the good black and woodgrain is the patmobile, the other rust free blue wagon is loooking for a new home and the final wood grain wagon is destined for scrap"

Hi gang,

Sorry I have been away for a while. I have been throughsome curves that life has thrown me in the past couple of years, the big ones being an employment change and divorce. Eagles had to take a back burner for a while.
The Eagles were taken to my place in Calcutta Oh. The black sedan was stripped out long ago and crushed. Capt. Spillane got the interior and some other parts went to fix the 3 solid ones.
The rusty blue wagon gave its roof rack to Rohnk, and parts to fix the others. Its slated to be hauled off for crushing soon.
The Black and woodgrain wagon is almost drive able, as soon as I can swap the tranny that is....
The all blue wagon is in a holding pattern until I can get time to change the tranny and front diff from a donor.
The blue wagon with grey hood I have done nothing with. Would like to find it a loving home as it has no rust...

Sadly my access to the cars is limited right now as they are at my ex's property....but a deal is underway to reclaim the property

Thanks for checking in at the Den and updating us on the cars.  Its good to know that some of the parts have been donated to help out other Eagles stay on the road!

And sorry to hear about the curves that have come your way.  Hopefully they will soon be in the rear view mirror of your Eagle.  And as a wise man once said, there is a reason the windshield is a lot bigger than the rear view mirror!

Hello,   I hope the cars that were scraped were gutted of all uasable plastic panels, door panels, glass, knobs, drivetrain, well everything that could be used to keep another Eagle on the road or made complete. I am not gettin' any younger and trying to keep my Eagle on the road is a challange at times. Still have seven Eagles at the house and they may end up in the crusher if there is no sanctuary.
I've shifted to Ford F150s between 1992 and 1996 with the 300 six, they are much easier to get parts for .. still driving an Eagle but rust in the front end is taking over. I've lined up a welder who says he can fab a support and weld it in that may give me several more years. Anyway ..  I hope there will be a sanctuary were these Eagles can be taken to, when its time to say googbye.                                                     Iron Horse  :o

There is really only one sancuary place right now and that would be Captspillane in Penn. At least he's on your side of the country. There are also several people decently close to you on the Eagle map that would probably gladly take a free Eagle.

I'm located half way between Philadelphia and Allentown. There were two other East Coast Sanctuaries that have come and gone. AJ was going to buy my sedan for his wife and I ended up with his wagon as a trade. I still have both because he divorced before I finished the work on the sedan. As far as I know all of the Eagles he had are gone. At one time he had 15 or so I think. He was located in mid western PA and was probably the first person to use the term "sanctuary." Sean's Sanctuary, located in western PA, also ended in divorce, although he still has a couple Eagles. I am going through divorce now too but it has just pushed me into working harder and faster in reproducing parts. I've owned 25 Eagles and related small body AMCs and still have twenty. I'm getting pretty good at restoring and fixing them up, with a few projects I've completed for other people.

I got a boost from working at sea driving oil, gasoline, and diesel form Philly to New York through the ocean. Two weeks on and two weeks off is a great schedule to turn a side hobby into nearly an occupation. I now work as an electrical engineer fixing CNC machines and am collecting the tooling and knowledge to launch into reproducing parts and retrofit kits at a large scale. Hopefully I will be around for a long time with many of my current cars returning to the road. That's the idea.

I will gladly accept the cars that no one else can fix or store. Most of the ones I ended up with were headed to the scrap yard. I have unlimited parking for a flat rate at a storage facility and I intend to make the most of that deal.

Title: Re: Have 4 maybe 5 Eagles for the sanctuary
Post by: captspillane on November 21, 2014, 02:42:50 AM
I'm two hours from Baltimore. I figure you are probably 4 hours away and about 230 miles. 440 miles at approximately 15 miles per gallon towing each car individually would cost about $100 in gas and 8 hours round trip. I'd have $300 and a full day into each car when you figure the time. That's reasonable. I may be motivated to fix the axles on the gooseneck to be able to transport two at a time.

Hi,  I am about 1 hour south of Balt. matter a fact i'm picking up another F150 tomorrow in Balt. I am from PA ( Berwick ) when I go home, I take 301 to 97 hit the Balt beltway .. west 695 to 83 north to 81 get off on 93 into Berwick.   Anyways good to know your able to transport .. maybe we can set something up for summer 2015 when weather is nicer for travel.   My wife would love to see them  GONE , can't figure out why they don't see the logic in having  "spares" !!                                                                                                                                                         Regards, Iron Horse  :o

Hello captspillane,

I am still willing to part with several of the Eagles I have left .. time just flys by, and I know I just won't be able to save them in the way you can. The front unibody frames are still good on three of the ones that would be leaving.  I'll stay in touch, and when the ground around here firms up, we'll set up a pick up date if you are still interested.

I'll still be interested. I can put them to good use. If one of them especially tugs at your heart strings I'd be happy to put some time into it and get it back on the road for you. You should make sure you keep one around that is really nice that you can baby and enjoy.

It is especially enjoyable if it is the conclusion of a project that has been patiently waiting for many years to come together. It seems you've been enthusiastically saving these for a long time and I hope that effort leads to a gratifying conclusion.

Hello captspillane,     I do have one I,d like you to give a life extention to, and I'd like to talk more about that. I have 4 that can go .. 3 of those have good 1/2 frames in the front end. Of course I hate to see them go, but do not want to see them rust into unusable pieces of crap either. I guess .. just give me several weeks notice before you want to make the "run"  and I can get the cars staged for loading. I also have many, many parts .. we can talk about them going too.   Email me or I can give ya my cell number for voice and text messages .. let me know.                    Later, Iron Horse  :o

Holy cow great to know there is a  place to save  the history of the eagle. I may have a wagon for you. Bought it sight unseen the guy sounded like he took care of his stuff, he has a daily driver wagon. Well the lower control arm snapped on the flatbed on the way to me.the body is beautiful everything is there. I bought another 4 door of c-list 3hours later and I am finding some rot on the frame on this one also. It might last me mabye 2years if left alone. I would love to get it welded if it can be. If not I'd like to donate or trade for some cash off a super solid one. I don't know what else to say other than let me know what's up.

Hey, I know it's been a long time since anyone replied and I'm not sure if you still have any parts available...  just curious if you might have any decent leather seats for a wagon?  I'm in central VA so you would not be too far away.  Also looking for some misc. interior and exterior trim.  Just rescued an '84 wagon from the grave and trying to get her pretty again.
