Strange grommet on underside

I just got the tranny and transfer case out of my eagle. I noticed on the underside of the tranny hump on the floor there is a grommet there i dont think anything pulled out of it. just kinda curious the picture is side ways..sorry bout that.

Does your car have A/C. Just a random guess, could it be the A/C condensate drip tube plug for non A/C cars?

There is a rubber plug at the bottom of the automatic shift lever housing.

The same plug was used in the early Ford Mustang.
