New guy from Tennessee
« on: October 11, 2017, 07:31:35 PM »
Hello Eagle's nest! Just wanted to say hello and tell my story a bit. I grew up in the Mountains of Washington State, our family car was a 1972 Jeep Commando, and we had many adventures. My Mom had an accident and could not handle the clutch on the Commando, and in 1980 my dad traded it in for brand new 1980 Eagle 2 door sedan, shiny black, and the prettiest car I ever saw. I loved the Commando, but the Eagle had AC and other comforts that quickly won me over. We took the Eagle all over the place, I remember pushing snow with it. Sadly the Eagle was T-boned a few years later, and my dad then bought a Diesel Chevy Monte Carlo (big mistake!)

I am a fair mechanic, having restored a few cars over the years, and I now have a 1973 Commando of my own. It is a bit of a project, but I'll get there soon! I left WA state with the military and am now retired in Nashville, TN. I've realized over the years I have almost never seen an Eagle on the road since i left home in the late 80's. I've decided to fix that and put an Eagle in my driveway. I like Overland/Car camping adventures, and a nice Eagle Wagon would be a great setup. I did spot one on CL that I plan to take a look at, it may work out, or if not I'll keep searching for the right car. My preference is always to avoid rust, I can fix anything mechanical :)

Thank you all for the wonderful resource here, I look forward to many nights of research!

Wow you lost me at commando. Those were my first 2 cars. Both 73. One was a parts vechicle. The other a 3 speed manual i swapped the motors to have a 304. That was a good fun beast.

Welcome aboard

Welcome, I live down in Fayetteville, but no longer own an Eagle.  I did the "overland" thing with my Eagle and decided I needed something with more space and capability off-road . On a side note, I only mention this because of your username, I moved on to an Isuzu Trooper.

Welcome to the Den and good luck on your search for an Eagle, I'm sure you'll find the right one.  Depending on how far you're willing to travel, we get some nice ones show up for sale in CO on a pretty regular basis, and most of them are rust free.

Thanks all, and sorry for misposting!

"trooper" actually comes from a different hobby, I build star wars armor and get in side it for charity events and comic cons :)

Looks like the stars are aligning to pick up a Texas bird this week. Will keep you all posted!
