I think I need Axle bearings
« on: December 16, 2012, 07:45:07 PM »
I'm in need of bearings.. I've found the post about front wheel bearings being  Timken SET26 want to confirm if that has changed and what location has them.
This is a 1981 Eagle Kammback with the 258. I also have a rear hub I think is going out. Haven't opened the right side to confirm but under hard acceleration and a solid right turn I have some awful sound coming from the RR hub wheel area. Not a tire. I can rock the car and hear the metal sort of thump.
so again if anyone knows of a part # and can verify. Sort of worries me on this part when my local part place can't find the part. Don't want to drop a tire and can't afford the time or money of doing something more than 1 time.. this poor thing is now a daily driver till the People mover gets back from the shop.

Rear axle bearings are Set5
AMC/Jeep gauges are for amusement only. Any correlation between them and reality is purely coincidental!

Awesome so sounds like a Set5 for rear and a Set26 for the front..

You want to do this ASAP! I ignored noises in mine and that is how mine grenaded (actually, something finally snapped inside and my driver side rear wheel and half shaft came OUT!  Why mine was beyond repair at that point was because it tore out the hubhousing.  So, I had to get a whole new axle.  Best of luck!
My list of my cars/toys (or toys at my disposal!)

I like to to tell people my Eagle is like a Ferrari. It's quirky, tempermental, border-line exotic, and something you don't see everyday.  See? Makes perfect sense....
