As you can see above there is a big difference between Eagle leaf springs from other AMC cars.  So one size fits all springs will probably not do at all.   I suppose if you wanted extra lift in the rear for the Series 50 cars you could use Concord/Hornet springs and for SX/4's and Kammbacks then use the Spirit/AMX springs.

Well its not that easy since the load rate has to do all so with the hight of the vehicle once install on it and the load rate is all so affected by the way it bolts on to the axle either on it or under witch will affect the flex point on the leaf spring.
Not sure how to explain this so you can understand.
Looks at the AMC Concord its arch is 3 4/8 more then the AMC Eagle, but then the AMC Eagle has 22 pounds more of Rate then the AMC Concord before the leaf springs start to work as they should

You are correct Gil.  So, best to stick with what is specified for each model to begin with.

I was thinking that maybe a set of 4 banger, non air, springs might lower it a bit.

As is so often the case, my poor old 88 is left out.
However, since 80 - 87 use the same springs I assume the 88 uses the same, also.
If anyone knows anything to the contrary, please let me know.
I have emailed the company in Kansas that Joe-Javelin told us about but I haven't heard anything yet.
Their specs match the ones here.
Do you suppose the heavier springs would lift the rear compared to the lighter springs?
I would think with higher load capacity and more arch they would.
I have almost decided to replace my new springs that went flat so quickly.
I'm right 98% of the time, and I don't care about the other 3%.

AFAIK they are the same for '88.  What does the '84 - '88 parts manual say in the Eaglepedia?

When I had my springs done, I was going for new front and rear, but the spring shop advised me to go with new coils and adding a leaf on the back to get the height back.  Since they were the pros and were saving me the cost of new rear springs, I listened.  Haven't regretted it yet.  They did inspect my suspension before telling me that, and possibly my leaves weren't too worn out, but like I say, I am quite happy with the results.

So to increase the overall load capacity you must increase the number of leaves? Or am I totally lost and no one has any idea of what I just said? I've helped change some rear springs on a Jeep (Chrysler) TJ before but it wasn't that hard. Is it hard to change them on an Eagle? Or is it basically the same concept?

I bought a set of the heavier springs from kcsprings (not sure I got the name correct).  When I put them on they were as flat as the ESPO springs.  I don't know the specs on the ESPO springs.

I have spoken with this spring king guy he sounds like he knows his stuff.  When I get my '84 running it will need springs I am going to get them from this guy.  When i asked about front springs and if he had heavy duty replacements he said it didn't matter if he didn't have them on hand he would just make some.  The nice part is he lives about an hour from me but travels this way about 2 to 3 times a month and said we could meet up and would not have to pay shipping.

I'm currently looking for replacement rear springs for my SX/4's rear axle swap. Any news on the Sprinking's goods? I've read about the sagging problems others have had, and am waiting for my local spring shop(Ace Spring Service, San Antonio, TX) to get back to me about what they might be able to build.

I've done plenty of business with them through all my Jeep building(they custom make u-bolts there), and they were able to get me just a main/top leaf to replace one broken in an accident. I have some custom/hybridized leaf packs on my YJ springover: stock YJ spring pack with the 2nd leaf of a Pro-Comp 2.5" YJ lift spring sandwiched under the main leaf(like a full-length add a leaf that's not ridiculously stiff like most add-a-leafs). Stock YJ springs sag quickly when set up in springover axle configuration, which is likely the problem with the Eagle rear springs.

Rubicon Express makes a XJ Cherokee full length add-a-leaf, which I have on my MJ Comanche. It lifted the truck's sagged-out springs by about 2".

The flatter arch for the Eagle springs shows when they are on the car and settled. Eagle springs are practically flat when under load and other AMCs still have some arch left. My 80 AMX must have HD springs 'cause they have 5 leaves. Terry's SX4 has 5 leaves also but I haven't asked him yet if he rebuilt them or are they factory.
