swappin in a Non Disconnect axle
« on: August 01, 2023, 12:51:29 PM »
hi, I'm in the process of swapping a (rebuilt) set of axles from an 85 Eagle into my 84 Sedan. Going from the 84 2:35 to the 85 2:73. Currently the 84 disconnect system works fine, but the 85 system is NON disconnect, the "Shift-on-the-Fly". I have the complete 85 vac. harness. Seems a MUCH simpler set up.
My question: Can the 84 TRANSFER case shift motor be used?, or is there a specific 85+ one I need?

Also, there are only two vac lines down there, a yellow and a green, but THREE ports on the vac. motor. The yellow goes in front port, the green in the middle, and the rear is plugged? Is this correct? The car came with a strange connector down there, looks stock, but how does it attach? Pictures anyone?

..and, yes the red is the main vac. feed.

Thank you for any/all responses.   gz

Interestingly enough, the NP228/229 TC shift actuator that someone mentioned on here a few months ago from BJ's Off-Road has just (2) ports, linked below.  That would certainly be for a shift-on-the-fly TC.
