Title: Shifter & throttle valve/kickdown lever grommets?
Post by: knobbler on May 07, 2023, 03:20:12 PM
So I'm a pretty dumb guy, at least when it comes to these lever bushings [edit: to clarify, I'm talking about the business that retain the linkage to lever connections with the 998 automatic]. See, I've separated the linkage and levers many a time, and have still yet to manage doing so without completely destroying these grommets. That said, I've destroyed another pair, and this time I have to clean up after myself, so I'm hoping someone knows of some off-the-shelf replacements I can get. Any suggestions? Maybe a dorman assortment product number? Tried to search for an old post that might cover this, but had no luck.

If you're talking about the bushing that the kickdown rod snaps into at the transmission, Kennedy American shows them available for $9.50 each (J3220125).

If you're talking about the 2 snap-in bushings where the shifter rod goes on the tranny arm, those are easy to find.  Search part numbers J3238418, 3575333, or 53004810.

Both, actually haha
I'm all thumbs when it comes to separating the linkages from either of those arms, as you can see here:

I'm sure there's a right way to do it, at least with the one that's split 4 ways to have spreading tangs (the one on the right), but I've yet to figure out what that may be. That said, I'd best plan ahead and get a backup pair while I'm getting replacements with the p/n you shared. Many thanks!

Don't feel bad - once the plastic "hardens" with the heat, they all break.  I'm surprised that Crown hasn't started re-popping the kickdown grommets.  They could probably charge $20 each for them!
