Title: 1980 Eagle wagon sighted in Mexico
Post by: rollguy on October 22, 2014, 08:51:37 PM
Every month I go with a friend of mine to help him build a house in Mexico.  We were visiting the next camp ("Campo" in Spanish is the word for the small areas of land owned by the locals that is divided up into lots leased to Americans) when I saw this:

Next time I go down there, I will try to find the owner.  If I can find the owner and he will sell parts from it, I would be happy to bring them back with me....Rich

Look at the VIN and see if it begins with 1 or 3. (2 would be Canada)

That a cool find. I've often fantasized about buying up an old VAM in Mexico. A Mexican friend of mine had a cousin that had a VAM Lemur who lived in Juarez who was willing to part with it. The problem I ran into was it would have been nearly impossible to title and register it in the US. I wonder when that old wagon made its way over the border. If only that car could talk...I bet it had and interesting life.

That is a 1980 Sport package with a special steering wheel. The steering wheel has slots like the newer non-leather wrapped wheels but it also has leather that wraps but doesn't go up as high on the spokes like the newer leather wrapped wheels. It was only like that in 1980, all other years are different. You can see the stitches for the leather under the cover.

The sport emblems, the rear window trim, the front grill and foglights, and the steering wheel are all desireable.
