Title: Regional Meets
Post by: IowaEagle on September 21, 2008, 09:29:40 PM
After this year's meet we felt regional meets will probably be the best way for us to get together to at least put some names to faces.  So please feel free to use this board to discuss the holding of a meet in your region.  Perhaps caption it like I did for the 2009 Mid West Region.  Please feel free to use this topic to share your opinions and suggestions.

I've thought for a while about doing a "mini" meet here at our land. There would be no limitations on who could come. Maybe an award for who traveled the farthest. There are pro's and con's to having it here. 18 acres to knock around on, hills to climb, tools at hand, and more could be brought by others. I would be happy to cook (over mesquite coals) most any kind of meat or veggie conceivable, decent lodging within about 20 minutes, gas and groceries with in 15 minutes, Parts stores (for Maverick) within 20 minutes, Camping on site o.k.
Air travel would be through Austin, I'm sure arrangements could be made for pickup and delivery to airport, though i don't ever go that far into town unless someone is bleeding. It's about an hours drive.
I'm thinking a whole weekend, maybe do some wrenching around it, will need to be after deer season. Ya'll start thinking about weekends after say Feb.
There wouldn't be any cruise or parking at sonic, but could do some wrenching, try out your front axle a little, and have some good food, maybe some guitar pickin, and brew.
Bring a parts rig, we'll strip it. Bring a transmission, we'll stick it in. We could finaly install my NP229, or yours.
What do ya'll think?

We discussed you doing a regional meet Jack.  There are several down your way.  Gil could bring his yellow boxes to serve as goodie bags.  Or the wrenching could be putting his back together again.  It was those unplanned repair clinics that proved, IMO, to be the most interesting part of our little get together.

Be nice having something close by, specially now that we have several members from New Mexico and Texas, we could provably do something in Ruidoso or Roswell

Gil, I like puzzles, that sounds like a good idea.  I would love to make it down to a meet in your neck of the woods guys. Heck, I figure I could learn a lot from TrapperJack.  THere have been a number of times I have been tempted to pull the side view mirrors off my Eagle and mail them to trapperJack for painting and customization; like he did to his.

More members in WV now, maybe we could swing a meet in the state, course all members would be welcome.

I would definetly be up for hosting a Mountain States meet.  There is a great trail here which crosses a mountain stream like 10 times.  It's a beautiful drive, the camping and trout fishing are great, and the trail is very doable in a stock Eagle if the 4wd works.  I posted pics in this tread.
 http://forums.amceaglenest.com/index.php?topic=16979.0

There is also the offroad park here which is plenty mild for stock rigs and challenging enough for the more modified ones as well.  I also have a well equipt shop, and several parts cars.

Or perhaps a Colorado meet?  Anything would be great.

Hey Trapper, I am down for a meet in your neck of the woods... maybe I could fly in a couple days early and we could go pick up my 81' sx/4 from my uncle... if the frame hasn't rotted out in the last few years, then we can get her road worthy for the 16hr drive back to my place, lol.... or if the frame is toasted... we strip her down and split the parts!

Driving a car that has been parked in amud pit for the last three/four years without being fired up is... well... stupid... but hey, we took my sx/4 4hours to Tama with only minor problems... I'm down for it if you are. Not sure if I could swing it as early as February... pls it'll still be cold then... what about April or something?

Honestly, with enough notice... I would try to make as many meets as possible. If we keep em on the weekend... I'm down.

Maybe you want to organize one in Branson?  Many members are in that region.

Hey Mick, I'm in Colorado.  We should definitely see what kind of interest we could generate, I know there are several folks from CO on the forum. And definitely someplace in the woods so the Eagles can get a chance to do what they were made to do!

A Mountain States meet would be nice.  I m more than willing to come to CO.  It would make more sense for me to come down than to have 4 or 5 people drive up to Wyoming.  Maybe meet in Estes, or up Poudre canyon.

I could probably make Trapperjack's and Branson both if they weren't too close together timewise.

If we do one here, late Feb. or March would probably be best. Still cool temps, fire ants and 'skeeters at a minimum.

I doubt I could make one that soon, but again depending on finances and days... who knows. I would love to come hang out with ya Jack. You down for helping me get that 81 road worthy for my ride back? lol

It's possible. Figure about 4-5 hours there, time to load and tie down, 4-5 hours back. If running when parked, I'll bet we can fire her off. You could fly to Dallas, rent a truck and trailer, and haul it here. We could pre-order filters and fluids to make sure they were here on time. I even have an SX/4 window around here somewhere.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking... she ran excellent when we parked her. I'm sure she will need new rubber... brakes are 50/50... and lets hope the wheel bearings havent frozen up or rusted up too much. That motor ran great with a little blow bye... about 80k original miles on here.

A tune up and some wheels and I would trust her anywhere... with a proper inspection to be sure of course. Most of her issues are cosmetic.

Oh gawd... the woman is going to kill me... however.... tax money this year... hmm... if you do February... do late February... I get paid vacation then, and my tax money should be in... this sounds like it could be very possible my friend.

I would love to make a meet in late Feb. or early March.  I do not think the finances would be there.  Besides I need to make sure Nikki and I take turns on personal trips and such.

Brandon, suggest to the wife that she get a couple friends together and go have a weekend at a bed and breakfast. They can gab and cackle, have a break from the daily routine, come home feeling good, then say, "You know, I might like to go to Texas in Feb. or March." Tell her you'll bring home some hot sauce, or bar-b-que or something. Maybe a sack full of pecans. Do ya'll eat pecan pie up there? There's a place within a 15 minute drive that was voted best chicken fried steak in Texas, and they make hamburgers that will make you throw rocks at your momma. I can take you to a couple different places within maybe 30 minutes that have ribs that just melt in your mouth.

Still haven't tried to nail down a date, but it's on my mind.

Mmmmmm.  Pecan Pie

I'm about 30-someodd miles North of Austin, about halfway between Leander and Liberty Hill. I'm thinking of a kind of wrenching session for those that bring birds, and folks can camp out here, or stay at hotels in nearby Cedar Park or Georgetown. I'll probably cook some sort of animal on the smoker, we can work on Eagles, I'm thinking about having help to install my low-range transfer case in "the Critter", have campfire's at night for those willing to "rough it", pick some guitar, have some Shiner or brew of choice, and test out some front axles on a couple hills on my land. And I promise, we don't shoot yankees on sight anymore. We'll figure out a way to get those flying in from the airport in Austin to and from the airport.

Maybe NJ will come and camo "the Critter", too.

Save a Shiner (or 2) for jim.  Hopefully the white woody will still be running then.

Will do jim, and you'll be glad to know the attack kitties we had before have moved on to greener pastures. They've been replaced with other, less agresive kitties. You and wondereagle are always welcome, especially if you bring headliner replacement stuff.

Maybe everyone that comes could do a hands on "how-to" on their area of expertise. Need a stereo installed bring it, someone can show us how. Drop a tranny, one of us could show how, and actually do it. We coiuld make a 3 day weekend out of it. Someone have a smashed up front end, I can show you how to replace it, NJ can show how to correct my rattle-can primer job.

Yeah Rowell or Ruidoso would be cool with me. They are both nice places, though Roswell doesn't have a whole lot going on there, but then again, when it comes to a vacation, that's sort of the whole point. Maybe we could be a caravan of UFO's (Unidentified Four-wheeling Objects) while we are there. After all nobody knows what our cars are anyways ;) I bet there are some nice four wheelin places in either area. I'll be there, depending upon when I have my surgery.

Also, Mick, since I am located close enough to you, I would love to do yours as well. Maybe we could consider the Ouray/Silverton area, lots of great trails there. If we were feeling really cocky and up for a scary adventure, we could give Black Bear Pass a shot.I hear the Pucker Factor is pretty high, and we might need surgery to get the seat covers out of our butts... Again, this will depend on when I have my surgery, and how far into the recovery from it I am.

A meet anywhere would be great. If there is one this year regardless of the location, I would be thrilled to go to. I live in a small town between Huntsville and Birmingham in a town called cullman, al. I have had a couple of eagle since 2006, r.i.p. '81 sx/4. Currently I have an '83 sx/4 d/l sport w/ sunroof. I feel like a lone eagle here. I've only seen a couple of wagons on the road, and that's when I've visited family out in Colorado. I would like to meet other enthusiast of this rare breed, if for no other reason then to just have some visual confirmation they do exisist. My eagle has been hidden away and cut off from the rest of the nest for a long time. A reunion of cars would be tops.

Kit, I'm just above Huntsville in Fayetteville, TN. Rob aka AMC1320 is in Manchester, TN and him and his family have 3 Eagles. If you're interested in driving a couple hours north, I'm sure Rob wouldn't mind a mini meet in his town.

Eventually I would love to head out toward Pittsburgh where there are quite a few members for a meet. All of you are invited to my meet each year. I started it in June 2013 and it will be annual for as long as I live. At the ripe old age of 28 hopefully I'll be around for awhile. I call it the Perkiomen Solstice Meet because I put it on or near the June Solstice. It will be a weekend before or after June 21st, depending on which weekend I do or don't have custody of my infant daughter.

I am located an hour above Philadelphia, less than 3 hours from New York City, about 6 hours from the PA/Ohio border, about 1 hour and 20 min from the Cabelas superstore in Hamburg PA, and about 45 minutes south of Allentown.

This year the meet will be on Saturday, June 20th, 2015.

It is an exciting year because I will have a couple completed projects to showcase. I personally own over twenty Eagles and there are a number of other people planning on coming too. I have some tutorial events planned during the day and some cruise time. I would love to see you guys there!

Yes, I would love to host an eagle meet! I'm in manchester tn, about half way between Nashville and Chattanooga on interstate 24.

If there are others who can come let's pick a date,

I would also open it up to all AMC's too since we also have a few of those hanging around....
