There are 2 switches for brake lights . One with cruise control , one with out . If you are getting the 4 connector switch then use the two terminals that are pointing to the driver . The two pointing to the left side of the car are for the cruise. I would start at the tail lights. Pull the brake light bulbs out of the sockets and then see if the wires are  still  getting hot . If the wires still get hot then you have a short some where . If not then reinstall the bulbs one at a time checking that the bulbs light and the wires are not hot.

Do I need a brake switch with or without the cruise control since I have the cruise control disabled?

I hate to throw the same question out if it’s been answered before but some of the previous posts are dated and some of the companies suggested don’t seem to be in business any more....

Anyway, I ordered a new set of front door pins and bushings for my 84 eagle and sure enough the hinges are egged out big time and won’t work (my gut new this would be the case).  Now I just need to locate an oversized set that I can drill out for. Does anyone know of a particular pin/bushing set that is commonly used in this situation?

Yep; you still need something to work the brake lights.

When I hit my brakes one of the wires going to my switch gets extremely hot and melting the wire or connection going to it....put a new switch on it and no brake lights again so i am sure the connection burnt or wire melted again. any idea what's going on? could the wires be backwards? it worked with the new switch...seems like the longer my foot on the brake the hotter the wire gets

Today it was a final countdown...

Putting all parts together. Package is ready to install...

Going in...

Before it looks like this, I had to remove righthand exhaust manifold and transmission oil tube (Jeep CJ version).

Cylinderhead hits firewall on drivers side near brake cylinder....

New engine mounts are too solid and transmission mount is too soft... So engine points to heaven... :censored:
