as an X carpet guy, it looks like carpet padding to me.......I would worry maybe about the thin plastic coating over it and heat........ maybe. Then again, just my guess.

It is carpet padding.  The thin plastic coating I'm not too worried about as all the old stuff under carpet had similar stuff.  I'll be checking it for how it holds up to heat as time goes on, but things are fine as of now.  It was just a cheap option that sounded good at the time, so research to back up the idea.  Hopefully it holds up.

Its been awhile since I've updated this thread, but I haven't really gotten much done either.

After dealing with some fueling issues, everything is running again.  I have a new fuel pump, new pickup tube filter, and best of all, a working fuel sending unit!!  I have a working gas gauge! (for the most part)  I didn't get the unit set up quite right, so full reads 3/4 of a tank, but its better than nothing, and it was only $30 as opposed to a $150 reproduction unit.

Details on the sending unit conversion are here: http://forums.amceaglenest.com/index.php?topic=35168.msg287262#msg287262

The Eagle looks great! My SX/4 has the same colors, but was the actual sport model with a spoiler. I really really like what you did with your spoiler, I might end up going with the black on mine as well. The stock white is too bland and needs to clash a bit.
