1983 SX/4 - Newb
« on: May 13, 2014, 09:34:10 AM »
New member here

Finally got me one of these Eagles!  I'd been wanting one for several years, just couldn't ever find one here in central Ohio.
So I put up an alert on CL and was lucky enough to find one out in Pittsburgh (as a Browns fan, this car was one of the few things that would make me want to go to Pittsburgh...well, that and some Primanti Brothers)

Picked this up for $1000. It was a trade-in at a dealership and they didn't know what to do with it.  Got it towed back to Columbus in October and haven't even had time to touch it (bought a new house in November and then we had the winter that wouldn't end)

Now that the sun's come out, I plan on getting this beast back on the road.  The wiring is currently a mess...looks like the PO swapped carbs and disconnected half of the harness in the process, but was nice enough to leave the original behind the seat.  Dealership said it ran when traded in and that they drove it up and down the street.  I haven't been so lucky.

I'm going to order me a copy of the TSM, but I'm sure I'll be asking some pretty dumb questions.

Welcome. Unless there's hidden rust under that paint job, it looks like you got a good deal.

The TSM is a good start, it's helpful in getting everything together. It looks to have been gutted, but as long as the body is good I'll be a fun project to make things nice again.

I can't tell you where that radiator is from... that's odd.

The outside looks great, even the back sits up nicely.

Looks like a CJ radiator.

Thanks for the kind welcome!

The body/paint is actually very good...its obviously been redone at some point in its life.  It was originally that brown/camel color (which reminds me of a Dodge Omni I used to have in the same color scheme)
For now, I'm focusing on mechanicals...I guess I'm a function-over-form kind of guy

I'm almost positive the radiator is from a CJ...as is the carb the PO put on it.  Looked it up at lunch today.  Its currently running a Carter 2681

I dislike you already. I was supposed to buy the Eagle. I called the dealership the day they started advertising it and said I would be there to look at it later in the day. Then apparently they sold it to you and without telling me at that. I got there and the car was already bought, I was so :censored:. I ended up having to pay $700 more for mine and in worse shape.  :banghead:

I think I remember seeing this one posted awhile ago. Very nice looking SX/4. Tires look a bit big without a lift. Are they 235s?

Prafeston:  Yes, they're 235's...no idea why. Probably whatever they had lying around

dleberfinger:  Sorry, man!  I bought it over the phone.  Its not my fault they didn't know what they were doing!  I'm sure it doesn't help, but it cost me about $250 to get it back to Ohio (including the cost of a couple Primanti Bros. sandwiches)

When you get it running right, you are going to love this car.  very fun and nimble to drive.  I have 10 trucks and cars, 4 motorcycles and the SX4 is still my favorite to drive.

No hard feeling haha.. I'm not really angry at you, just being a little over zealous. It's a nice car, good score!
