Title: Solid front axle swap? Anyone done this with how-to guide?
Post by: Nightpath on December 08, 2017, 07:27:02 AM
I've been debating doing the solid front axle swap to make things a bit easier. Has anyone here done it, with a write up/pictures? I know the IFS is unique to the Eagle but it's kind of a pain in the butt.

There was a somewhat of a how to written up by Mick, but it was lost in the big delete. It required  some custom brackets and arms that he built. Rich made a jig fixture from an old floor pan to make a front subframe that uses leaf springs, but I'm not sure if he still has it. He's in southern California.
Strike Eagle did his many years ago using mostly stock Jeep parts. He doesn't do well with the internet, but he would be happy to tell you over the phone what he did. PM me if you're interested and I'll give you his number.

I still have the fixture, and anyone that wants it can come and get it for free. Yes, I am in So. Cal (Hesperia).  It is basically the front frame of an Eagle turned upside-down, and can be used to fabricate a subframe to mount a solid axle. I used leaf springs, but the fixture can be used to fabricate whatever mounts you would like, and for any springs you desire. The stock spring perches are there in case you want coil springs. You could even use all Cherokee suspension parts......Rich

I live on the east coast of Canada, and am in the Middle East right now....be hard to make a call or visit lol.

I heard from someone that a long arm kit was made to work with a solid front axle. I'm thinking a Jeep XJ front end could be made to fit.
