as a 50 something old gearhead i got a 86 wagon to be my sons first car and my part/time driver when my truck is down. its in pretty good shape but i'm starting to look for parts. i think i need bearings in the frount and we seem to have tranny issues (it shifts hard). this site looks great and lookforward to getting help along the way

Make sure the trans throttle rod is in place and adjusted correctly. If the rod is missing or broken get it fixed or you will soon need a transmission. Which front bearings?

iowaeagle....i checked throttle rod is there in place and not sure how to check or adjust? front end just rides very noisy any ideas on where i can get front end parts?

Front end parts are available at most parts stores and at rockauto.com.
There is a discount code for rockauto somewhere on this forum.

I believe we have a trans throttle rod adjustment How To in the Eaglepedia. If not, I need to get one in there.

the "noisey" front end is most likely due to the sway bar end links needing replaced

someone along the way butchered this poor bird! i jacked it up to patch the front exhaust pipe to pass inspection until i can replace the pipe. two 3/4 inch tubes one comes down and crosses between engine and tranny the other straight down and that one is pinched off alot of vacuum lines wow. i wish i was a better welder found a 8" hole in the driver floor front rails look ok passenger is rougher than drivers for a "rust free" it seems to have a lot more issues than i thought.pics will come this weekend. i'm not sure if i should continue

Sounds like Pulse Air tubes. One to the cat converter and one to the exhaust header pipe. I think, IIRC.

That's what it sounds like to me , too.
Air cleaner to cat and air cleaner to exhaust. Gadgets in the middle, vac hoses to the
bridge connector on top of the valve cover.

ok so i'm finding balljoints and control arms on ebay.....much less than quoted. can i put 215/75/15s on chevy steel rims and if the rims won't fit will the tires. still working on tranny.......

If they are 5lug on a 4.5"

Than different possible backspacing to deal with. That's a tall tire for most likely a lazy oil suspension.

Minus trans. Its possible to make the front disconnect axle work

Different transfer case. IMO use the '84 transfer case but keep the '86 front axle in place as it is the better non disconnect variety and you will be able to keep your shift on the fly.
