I'm glad to see that these cars are still being driven!

My Eagles are for daily driving and for tinkering.  And also to be mobile museums to remind people of these cars.  I almost always get comments each time I take them out from people who remember them, haven't seen one in a long time, and who have fond memories of them.  Fly, Eagle, fly!

They're my daily drivers, but I don't drive much anymore. They have also been in shows & won awards. I actually beat myself outta first place in the 1980s. The sedan took first & the wagon got second. The other trophy was for 2nd place, I was confused & put it on the wrong Eagle!

Was my daily driver after purchasing in 2012 for ten years. Then finally decided to restore the car with new rockers and interior and paint and use it for car shows but not afraid to take it out when snow first falls before roads get all slushy.

Inside Your Eagle / Re: Speedometer wobble

I've been weirdly too busy to get under the car and check on this but I did find that at some point I reinstalled the rock guard for the transfer case and the speedometer got misrouted, so it has a sharp turn it has to make. I'll try correcting that and see if anything changes. Same with checking if I screwed the cable all the way into the back of the speedometer housing.

It's my daily.
I don't have space for another car so this wagon checks every box for where it goes and has to remain reliable. This has proven to be extremely expensive because it can rarely be taken off the road for extended periods of time for maintenance because it's needed again in fairly short order and roadside breakdowns. At the same time it has to look good, so there's lots of cleaning, polishing, waxing and as much effort as I can to keep both the interior and exterior presentable both on the road and when parked at the grocery store.
At this point the biggest thing I need to keep on top of is rust and failing collision/paint repairs from decades ago. You know, the two things that when you really have to pull the trigger are both very time consuming and expensive.

What does everyone’s Eagle do? Is it your off road toy? A daily driver? Your bad weather beater? A show car? Just something to tinker with?

My car has served all of those purposes. When I’m not at school, it shares daily driver duties with my Comanche. Usually it’s driven on rainy days because the Comanche is restored and my Eagle is far from nice, but it also gets driven plenty when it’s nice. Every now and again, it sees dirt, but it doesn’t get wheeled like a Jeep.

The Engine / Re: Lifter\Camshaft Issues

The more I look at that lifter and the one sitting on my desk as a paperweight, I think what happened was the engine sat for a period with humidity in the crankcase and rust developed on the lifters. They should normally rotate while in service and looking at the galling they stopped several times and finally stopped spinning entirely and just started wearing down the lifter until it wore straight through.
I'd be concerned about how much of the filter collected the metal debris.

The 4.0 head flows better and I think it might have larger valves. I’ve read that it’s good for 35-40hp, but it can be tricky to get the intake manifold to work.

I had a 4.0 head installed on my Kammback, along with a new cam and the Cherokee 4.0 header style exhaust manifold.  From what I recall, mounting the intake manifold wasn't a big problem, but he had to kind of rig up something to mount the power steering pump.  It does provide better performance.

Is that rust on the head of the lifter?
