Title: "She HATES it"
Post by: joey on March 16, 2010, 11:17:29 PM
Just a funny lil story. I live in a culd-sac and have a real snobby neighbor. The parking is first come first serve and her spot in front of her house WAS always open cause she likes to park i lil further away and in the sun. I personally love the spot cause it's always shaded. I happened to be in the office when she called the manager and the speaker is loud so I was able to hear most of it. So here goes "I know that the parking lot doesn't have assigned parking so it's open to anyone, but is there anyway you can tell joey not park his car in front of my house cause it's not the prettiest and I don't wanna look at it every time I look out my windows." So guess where I park it EVERYTIME now? I don't like to be petty, I don't usually sweat the small stuff but hey if she don't like it cause it's"not the prettiest" than she can look at everyday from here on out. She better not call me when she's stuck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Normally I'm a very helpfull, kind person but that just :censored: me off. "not the prettiest". That car is like a child to me, you don't call someones kid ugly do you? :angel12:

You need to make it uglier. I suggest wrapping tinfoil over everything. And maybe some electrical tape flames. Do it for the thread! Haha

Post by: mojobean on March 17, 2010, 01:59:05 AM
i'd park there everyday too. i mean really.. if its that much of a bother to her, she should start parking her OWN car there to avoid you parking there. Maybe you should start leaving her cards with REALLY UGLY HORRID cars on them, and write something positive on the inside.. some little tidbit about always thinking the grass should be greener, seeing the glass half empty instead of half full.. i know theres some quote out there that would be pertinent. Take morning glories for instance.. sure, looks like a nice vine with flowers.. in reality in quite a few states.. it is a noxious weed.
Or cards with extremely pretty cars on them, don't forget to include a roll of scotch tape so she can tape them up over her windows that face your car ;)
Maybe print out some fake car awards.. "BEST OF SHOW" or "Diamond in the rough" and pretend to be all excited.. so excited you just had to share your 'joy' with anyone (including your neighbor, which is the whole point) and show her the 'award' while jumping up and down. Maybe she'll start doubting her judgement and leave well enough alone. being that she is 'snobby'.. i would try the 'car awards' first.

while it may not alleviate anything.. it would still be quite fun to do. (i also like the tinfoil idea!!)

Now you need a bumper sticker:
"Better an ugly car than an ugly face" or something like that (ouch that's nasty).

Or...put a picture of a very large ugly face, (gorilla or baboon or the gray guy from Roswell, maybe), in the car window that's facing the house.

I'm gonna have to find that sticker, I should probably start doing some tinkering in that spot too. Maybe I'll test the sound of the glasspack there also. The best thing is when I see her come out and walk to her car past mine and start to scoff and shake her head! Priceless I love it!

I'm gonna have to find that sticker, that would be perfect for her. Cause she is a total butter face- Everything butter her face! lol I should probably start doing some tinkering in that spot too. Love the thread.... LOL... I do know there is a select group of people that do not like AMC's and every time I come across one I lok at what they are driving and bag on their car about how ugly or in capable it is, it usually shuts them up, or I snipe off, I would rather be in a not so desirable vehicle and know that it will get me anywhere I want to go reliably then to own a computerized piece of junk that spends more time in the shop then out having fun. I also live in a cul-de-sac, and also have to deal with a snob who hates my cars... although in my case, the snob is my wife.  >:(

She thinks anything over five years old is a beater, and we should all be driving hybrids.  Why did I have to make the mistake of marrying a tree hugger?  ::)

Guess I'll start parking my Eagle out front again... maybe a Concord beside it for good measure.

That's funny, as well as all the comments.  Nuthin' like a big F-U, to some arrogant snot.

EM, that sucks.  Sorry to hear that, but everybody's different...  I'm a little more lucky.  My wife supports me getting an eagle, as long as I support her stuff.   Our daily driver is over 10 years old, and I'm doing ma best to keep it running good.

It turns out one of my nebihors does hate my car.  She told one of my co-workers who happens to be her grandson.  "That if I hear him start that thing again I'll beat the ---- out of him." you can fill in the blank.

Time to buy a Gamma Goat and then start it up.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gama_Goat    We used to drive them around sedate upscale neighborhoods once in awhile.  The two unmarked toggle switches on the dash are for the bilge pumps -- not a good idea to discover what they are for on multi-lane highways where others are coming up along side you to pass.

Ugly, noisy, & awkward critters. 8 wheels w/ 4 wheel steering. dirtriot diesel & I forgot how many speed tranny. Were they 6 wheel drive? I forgot ( AAADD & CRS yet again ). If I remember right they were supposed to float swim.

Thanks IE, couldn't remember if all 6 pulled or not. Just checked your wikipedia thingie. Thought they were 4 cyls., only 3. Definitely remember the noise factor & can vouch for the " quirky steering ". Never got out of the motor pool with it & didn't want to.

Don't know if it's 'cause they're AMCs or just 'cause the neighbour's an *** but I have come home to 'abandoned car' stickers several times in the past year. They got lucky last October when I was away for a few days visiting my ailing mom. Came home to find the J10, Concord, and Spirit towed to the impound yard. Cost 650$ to get them out. My Sentra parked on the other side was not part of the fracas.

they had a Gamma Goat on gears once those things will go almost anywhere, and yes they are loud and the highway is a bad but funny place to find out what the switches do. as for whiny a** neighbors who like putting abandoned car stickers on cool a** cars just remember two can play at that game.

I liked the Gamma Goat one, but you'd probably have ALL the neighbors upset the first time you fired that thing up. The random door swap was a good one too. Some of them might not go over well with local law enforcement, I'd be careful.

I'm trying not to get too personal. I think the abandoned car stickers would be prob too far. but I do love to take ShhmEagle to get muddy and let it drip dry. (Pics are coming I promise maddog). When she does make it home before me and take "her" spot, I just keep my eye out and wait for her to leave then put it back in front of her door. All the new exhaust is in and as soon as it's warm enough and dry again I'm gonna put it on. Can't wait to hear the glasspack!!!!!!!!!

The mud would be a good one & perfectly legal ( never heard of a law against getting your car dirty ). Then when it drip dries there, the next time you leave, she'd have to park in it if she wanted that spot.

I think I'll do a fender, door switch a rooney every weekend! Na but seriously I am looking for a right front fender with no damage. The current one was hit and the front of it is kinda crumpled right on the curve that wraps around towards the grill.

I've got flat black Eagle wagon body parts ( still attached to the Eagle which I hope one day to start driving ) if you want something that won't show up at night.

Strangely, black shows up as black. It's too black.
The very dark green was perfect:

Oldfordman I posted a reply the other day about you offering me a black fender already attached. Don't know where it ended up so I'll post it again. I was letting you know that I'm gratefull to you for offering that. But I must refuse cause I would hate to see anything come off a perfectly good eagle that needs "some work." Whatever you do don't part anything off of it unless you NEED the funds, otherwise get that bird runnin. You will thoroughly enjoy it. The more eagles on the road or trail the better, so no one can forget the true heritage of the first 4x4 SUV. But if you have an extra fender just lyin around let me know, or if you know anybody getting rid of parts. I went to the parts for sale section and got half way thru before I got kicked off by the family, apparently I'm supposed to share the computer.LOL. It's hard to get offline when I'm on the nest. This sight is all too consuming, I think I've got an addiction here that has no cure!!!!!

Joey, eventually hope to get it painted & the chrome back to chrome ( remove flat black paint ), was just joking about this paint job I've got. Even the hubcaps are painted flat black. Still in the shop, the instructor said they should have it done by the end of next week. Problem is the kids only get a couple hours per day & a couple days per week in the shop. They have classes from 7:45 A.M. - 10:45 A.M. & again 11:15 A.M. - 1:15 P.M. In addition to the two classes, they also have two classrooms & instructors. Means they alternate days in the shop, 1 week 1st guy gets it Mon., Wed., & Fri., next week he gets it Tues. & Thurs. Word of advice, if you're in a rush, DON'T take it there.

What you need to do is avoid the soupy mud and go for the chunky mud. That way you have 50 lbs of mud hanging off the car that will drop to the ground in the heat.

This is an old thread [although this section seems pretty dead anyways? So no harm in digging up old threads..lol]
My neighbour came out today and complained to me that my truck has been sitting in my driveway covered in mud for a few weeks. I havn't moved it, as I'm driving something else at the moment.

I wouldn't care if an Eagle was parked infront of house of not.
Yes they are ugly, but I think that adds to the charm hah.
As long as it's in good shape, I don't see how she could have a problem.

One of my neighbours kept complaining to my parents when I was younger, I had an 86 Camaro, and I fixed it up, and it had a few different coloured panels for about a month until I painted it.. The only thing that saved me from getting it towed as an "abandoned car" is I had active plates on it.. I did have the city show up a few times.. Once I painted it, never had a problem again.

Although I'm not one to really care, no one wants a rusted out peice of junk in front of their house, and with the noise thing there is a difference between them complaining for no reason and people being inconsiderate. There is a ford ranger three houses down of my house, with straight pipes [it sounds like crap] and the guy purposely revs the crap out of it when he leaves at 4AM for work. He's gotten a lot of slashed tires over the past year lol

Old thread is old, buuut... That car was sold to Laz (twoslowinwyo), so it can be cared for. Joey since had to move. I worked with him last year for a few months while I was out of a job and it saved my butt.

My dad always teases me when I come down to see them, they live in typical middleclass covenant controlled suburbia and he loves tellin me how someone will call the police about strange vehicles in the neighborhood and stuff, or covenant watchers calling about "project cars". I just mention the times it started right up on -20F mornings ;)

Sunny, that's what makes me grateful for emissions here, don't have to deal with people pulling that crap... Though, when I was still finishing up the swap at the house I lived at, I was definitely a midnight mechanic, and I remember revvin the engine for a while and turning it off to realize it was after 1 am. I'm sure my neighbors were glad to see me gone, though I never did that to them on purpose :P

yes the "sh-me-gle" (all one word) as joey called it, (yes i am keeping the name) is starting to come together nicely. new stereo, pwr. antenna, pwr mirrors, power leather seats (which are being redone) new bearings in the hubs, new dash w/tach, a couple of good fenders 4.0 f.i. head and if i get a bug in my ear i just might slap a turbo on it. my only big problem is that my daughter wants it for her first car.she gets her permit soon. (AAAGGGGHHHHH!!!) man i am getting old.  :banghead: i lose my first one to my son now my daughter wants mine. i guess i will have to get another one :rotfl: i will have to get some pics up soon, i have been really falling behind on that.
